Reflections on Church

Roger’s farewell talk as he shared some reflections on church and what it means to live as the people of God. In Romans Chapter 12 the apostle Paul calls us, in light of God’s mercies, to see our lives as a living sacrifice.  Every aspect our lives is to be surrendered to God as we seek to live holy lives that are pleasing to God.

Thinking shapes what we do and so Paul challenges us not to be conformed to the pattern of this word but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  We are bombarded with many messages everyday but we need to hear the message of God’s word and let that shape and mould our lives. In v3 we are challenged to consider how we see ourselves. In v5 we are challenged to think about how we see church.  We belong to each other. We are different but one body with many gifts. Whenever Paul mentions gifts he always mentions love.

The challenge for All Saints is to be a church where the glory and grace of God is celebrated, proclaimed and enjoyed. A church that is known for its love, love for God, love for each other and love for a lost world. A love that comes from God, a genuine love for each other where people are going out of their way to serve and put others first.A church that is concerned about evil, sin, injustice and the brokenness of this world. A church where the gospel is proclaimed, lived and defended. A church where people walk in and they feel at home, welcomed and when they are not here they feel like they are missed. A church where you are spurred on love to love and serve The Lord Jesus wholeheartedly.
