Cut to the heart

Cut to the heart

Acts 2 describes God’s Holy Spirit coming in power on the disciples – and that changes everything – radically and permanently.

The impact on the early church on the Day of Pentecost and over the following days was mind-blowing;

… about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:41

But what is the significance for our church today?

In this action packed chapter we see how the the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and empowered them to perform extraordinary miracles. People from all over the know world could hear the gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed in their own language. When they heard of Jesus atoning death, resurrection and ascension,

…they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Acts 2:37

As we hear the same life giving, life changing gospel today, are we similarly cut to the heart?

How should we respond to this gospel? Should our lives be devoted to the same things as the disciples in the early church?
