All Saints Day

No Other Name – Acts 4:1-22

The Apostles Peter and John are confronted by a gaggle of detractors demanding an explanation as to how a man who had been a paraplegic could now walk. They specifically asked,

“By what power or what name did you do this?”

Peter’s response astonished them,

It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.  Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Acts 4:10-11

Peter makes clear the exclusive claims of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

If this is what we believe as followers of Jesus, what are the implications for All Saints for the next 58 years? The call from the world is to be silent, to not speak of Jesus’ name. Peter’s response is clear and courageous as he asks: “Which is right in God’s eyes?” To remain silent, or in love to speak of Jesus?

As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20
