The Blind Will See

The Blind Will See

John chapter 9 is the story of one man’s transformation from darkness to light.

Jesus heals a man born blind, giving him sight for the first time. But the physical dimensions of the miracle point to an even more stunning, unseen miracle. Despite intense opposition Jesus relieves this man of his spiritual blindness. Jesus brings him to a knowledge of the truth leading to eternal life.

By the end of the chapter, this once-blind beggar sees Jesus with such clarity he’s able to show us the way of discipleship.

But the good news comes with a warning for anyone who claims to see without Jesus. To recoil from Jesus’ light means preferring darkness. For such people, Jesus’ light’ will only intensifies their blindness.

So Jesus speaks plainly, verse 39: “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

Jesus has good news for blind beggars here.
